Asides from some roadmaps and Microsoft job listings unveiled by Stephen Chapman over at msftkitchen, nothing much is known about Windows 8 at this point in time. In our quest to see what’s going on over at Redmond, we got our hands on this list of builds from a very credible source within Microsoft (though it isn’t official, and it should be taken with a grain of salt):

It wouldn’t be surprising if Microsoft has already begun work on Windows 8, seeing that Sinofsky is behind the wheel of the Windows development team, and prudent, timely engineering was the case with Windows 7. We’ll try to hunt down additional information on the above builds, but it’s very likely that they’re early prototype builds of Windows 8, and, as such, they don’t have many new features or UI changes over Windows 7. If you have any information to share, feel free to leave us a comment, or anonymously tip us at staff[at]geeksmack[dot]net.

Windows 7 officially RTM’d on July 22nd, 2009, and it hit the shelves on October 22nd, 2009.
