Error 0x80070017
« on: February 20, 2009, 07:24:38 AM »
Hi not sure if this has been covered in another topic but i have already installed W7 Build 7000 in virtualbox on an XP SP3 host without a problem (apart from the fact that i cant use vboxadditions at the moment so screen res isn't amazing - any suggestions). I installed with the VM on 408MB RAM and 32MB Video and didnt have a drama.

I have since tried to install the same build, using the same DVD onto one of my tester laptops (Toshiba Equium - 512MB RAM, ATI Raedon built in but sharing some of RAM i think)  but setup is getting to the stage where it 65% unpacking the files and then stops with the Error Code 0x80070017 and displays the following in a message box:

'Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing.
Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the
installation. Error code 0x80070017'

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to work around this or what the issue is. My immediate thoughts are something to do with the ATI graphics card or the lack of RAM (but it worked in a VM!!). I have googled the error and have found a lot of information with regards to Vista Beta and that this error was common. The fix they suggested was to disable PCI gfx cards and just use onboard gfx.

Re:
Burn on the lowest speed otherwise the W7 could have start up problems.

At My Asus notebook I had to burn onto a Dvd- disk because the Dvd+ was not readable.

So for a good Install:
Lowest speed ro burn
Right Dvd + or - ( Dvd- works the best but is a little more expensive)
Alot official Dvd's are Dvd- .

I got a similar error trying to install software.
Try disabling your firewall for a while and see if it works then.
