Win & 64bit installation problems
« on: November 03, 2009, 10:51:41 AM »
Well, the installation went ok on my 18month old Sony vaio AGN-AR71M.
However, I now can't access the memory card reader ( mass storage controller error ), cannot access the laptop's Webcam and despite downloading the Nvidia driver for the Ge-force 8400M GT video card, get told there isn't a suitable card for the installation.
These are all supposed to be new 64bit drivers - but apparently, it would seem, not compatible with Windows 7.
Everything worked fine under the 32bit RC version.
Sony washing their hands about offering support!
Any clues, other than reverting back to installing the 32 bit version?

PS, hate to think what will happen with the 5 year old XP Pc which the upgrade advisor points out only the Video card as being a problem area.

Now got everything working bar the inbuilt cam - correct driver/latest software - software doesn't find camera.

Sony support is pretty terrible, you won't find any drivers except the ones they designed for a specific OS.  Especially video card support, only Sony-branded drivers work unless you replace the video card yourself (messy thing to do on a laptop).

A driver may appear for your webcam soon, or it'll be rendered useless.  Either way Sony isn't going to help you, as I see you've found out.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Well, I finally got the camera to work- downloaded a different camera driver to the one I thought was the correct one.
Downloaded Sony's driver for the video card which distinctly said NVidia driver, but downloading Nvidia's latest update for the card came back with the error of unable to find suitable drivers for updating!
Still everything is working now, albeit having to downgrade to 32 bit Windows!
Problem closed.
Memo to self - should have bought that Acer!
