List of Bugs in Windows 7
by Ken
(Johor, Malaysia)

I'm using Acer Aspire 4520 laptop, and currently using Windows 7. It works better than Vista but there are some annoying issues.

1.Windows 7 does not support some drivers. My sound driver, for example, is not working, no matter that drivers is for Vista or XP. I can hear a lot of cracking sound from my laptop. In the end, i need to run the installer in compatibility mode to fix this problem.

2.Virtual drive cannot be created in Windows 7. Alcohol, Daemon Tools and Nero cannot be used, due to installation failure of SSID, which is included in most imaging tools. My laptop keeps restarting to continue installation, yet it actually starts all over from the beginning after every restart. I'm forced to use Virtual Clone Drive (Which, annoyingly, cannot burn an image file)

3.Windows 7 works fine for me at the first place, but after some time, I found that i cannot set my laptop into sleep or hibernate mode. Once i do this, my user GUI will start malfunctioning.(Not even restart by clicking "Restart" button) The only way is to switch off my laptop and turn it on again (Hurts! x~x)

4.Some games cannot be run. For example Devil May Cry 4 (Don't even know what kinda error occured), Black and White 2 (Couldn't even recognize my OS!).

5.Windows Live Messenger 2009 cannot be removed from the task bar! Every time I open the messenger windows, it consumes 2 taskbar spaces (seemed like there are 2 open programs for windows Live Messenger), which is very annoying. Vista can minimize it to the tray icon while 7 cannot. I'm forced to use version 8.5 instead.

But then, compared to Vista and XP, 7 is still far better.

1.REALLY FASTER boot time! Vista takes a long time to fully loaded, but 7 only takes less than half of its boot time.

2.UAC is less annoying (I turn it off anyway)

3.Consumes less RAM (Vista consumes 1GB in idle status, while 7 only uses 500-600MB)

In conclusion, Windows 7 is still worth to try. There may be users with different styles of using and may found some features in 7 annoying, but for me, in the overall perspective, it works fairly fine for me.

Which Version of Windows 7 is this in question.
The only STUPID Question is the one you never asked.

Hi. I found a strange bug. User-generated jump lists on the task bar icons only work if all the default libraries are present. If you delete a library, say the music one, then all your shortcuts disappear. Reinstate the default libraries and all the shortcuts come back! I did not think they were related, but obviously W7 uses the library information to make the jumplists functional. Odd but fixable. Richard.

Run Messenger in compatibility mode to Vista, and you'll be able to minimize it.
