Multiple Desktops - Win 7
« on: August 09, 2010, 02:45:08 AM »
As we all know, Win 7 unlike Linux does not have a Multiple Desktops feature by which program-icons can be organized. More specifically, I need:

1) 4 desktops
2) Ability to switch amongst the 4 desktops
3) Ability to locate each desktop on a separate monitor (4 monitors total)
4) Hopefully the ability to make Sub-Groups within each desktop with Fences

Briefly, I have looked at Dexpot (easy setup UNTIL you put Fences on one of the desktops. OMG!); Crystal Desktop (gotta pay and don't know if it actually works) and a few others that were made for ancient versions of Windows.

I use Win 7 64 bit Ultimate.

Anyone have positive experience with virtual desktops that actually live up to their hype?

In the meantime I have "secured" copies of a whole slew of multiple workspace/multiple desktop programs.

1) Dexpot (easiest one to find)
2) Crystal Desktop
3) AltDesk
4) d3DNA
5) MicroDesk
6) MooO MultiDesktop
7) GimeSpace
8 SuperXDesktop
9) VDeskAst
9) Virtual Win
10) Desktops

I'll let all know which ones actually work and which ones do not have a steep learning curve. Don't know about you people but I'm kinda tired of "how the heck does it work" headaches. (See why I adopted the Confused Daffy Duck persona.)

I did my homework (lots of emails to developers) and finally purchased (yes purchased) the following two:

1) Crystal Desktop
2) Fences Pro

They both work together nicely.  Others on the list do not get along with Fences.  And both are So Easy to set up Even a Caveman Could Do It.
