USB 3.0 is a modern-day Unicorn
« on: July 28, 2010, 03:58:01 AM »
I have a new USB 3.0 Gigabyte motherboard with an AMD 6-core.

Unfortunately USB 3.0 is about as real as unicorns. Just something for "mine is bigger than yours" conversations.

USB 3.0 may NEVER come into reality. If you don't believe in Unicorns, feel free to compare USB 3.0 to Firewire. Ah, what's dat?  ;D

I have a Betamax player, and yet I don't have any USB3.0 devices

Starting to think they really don't exist after all
There's no place like 127.0.0.1

OMG! Are you saying Unicorns are not REAL??? Next you're gonna tell me there is NO Santa Claus, or Easter Bunny!!!!

Just to get y'all moving in the right direction USB 3.0, here are just a few devices that support this technology

iomega eGo Desktop 1TB Charcoal External Hard Drive 35054  139.99
BUFFALO DriveStation 2TB External Hard Drive HD-HX2.0TU3  195.99
Western Digital My Book 3.0 2TB Black External Hard Drive WDBAAK0020HCH-NESN  219.99
Cavalry CAHDD 2TB Black 2-bay USB 3.0 Dock with 1x 2TB Hard Drive and USB 3.0 Host Card Bundle CAHDD330020TH1  189.99

You guys are fun.

I would post gobs of links, but then I'm not permitted to do such a thing. :P

Ah yes, my good friend JavaJolt, let's run out and buy all those many USB 3.0 devices. Good Idea!

With no Intel Chipset - not now, not ever.

"Light Peak" anyone? Despite Intel's apparent lack of ethics here, fiber optics sure makes a whole lot more sense than chasing after USB 3.0.

Sure makes sense to this duck anyway.

The mathematics of true Unicorn speed:

USB 3.0 Write Speed: 10X =/= 3.5X
USB 3.0 Read Speed: 10X =/= 1.2X

Hey the Duck majored in symbolic logic. What more to say?  :P

No wonder Intel thinks USB 3.0 is the Firewire of the Present.

Fiber Optics, my friends, fiber optics.

Indeed I do have one (an NEC), though I don't use it much.  Good video quality, too bad the tapes only held an hour or so...
